The series

A European Commission initiative, which aims to raise awareness amongst young people about tobacco issues, the “Helpers” is an animated series of 12 episodes. The first season is broadcast online from the 15th October 2009.

The series depicts 3 super-heroes who try to save smokers and non-smokers from the negative effects of tobacco, by giving them absurd tips and advice. Chuck, Skinny and Loona, accompanied by Tapas, a masochistic freak of nature that won’t leave them alone, unify their strengths for better and for worst.

  • Loona

    The Prevention Helper

Ex-monitor in a youth camp, small, willing to help and diplomatic, she’s the intellectual of the group.

An ex-smoker, she has been fighting tobacco since her own carelessness wrought horrific consequences on her entourage. Since that moment, her mission is to stop people smoking – she would even stop a barbeque from smoking…

Her motto: “Prevention is better than death”

  • Skinny

    The Passive Helper

Ex-basketball player, very tall, skinny and not the least bit lively.

With a body like a mouldy sausage, Skinny’s health gradually worsened because of his girlfriend’s tobacco addiction. Given his incredibly slow reaction time, the poor guy must have really suffered…

His motto: “Take it slow in the morning, and not too quickly in the afternoon”

  • Chuck

    The Cessation Helper

Ex-lumberjack, short, stocky and nervy. He’s the brute of the group.

A repentant ex-smoker, Chuck worries about the health of the people around him. So when he offers you the choice of you crushing your cigarette, or him crushing your head, you’re somewhat inclined to follow his advice. But behind his rough manners Chuck has a heart as big as his fists.

His motto: “Act first, think later…”

  • Tapas

    The stupid mascot

Asexual, useless and masochistic, all are appropriate terms for this freak of nature.

To their great dismay, Tapas fell in love with the Helpers who can no longer get rid of him. So they create a role for him: he’s their punchbag…

His motto: “A bit of discipline never did anyone any harm!”
